President skips Vijay Divas celebrations in Kargil
Takes stock of the security situation in Srinagar instead
Kargil, July 26 CNS: President Ram Nath Kovind, skipped the pre-set schedule of visiting Kargil to attend the Kargil Divas function, while Army Chief General Bipin Rawat preside the function instead.
As per schedule President Ram Nath Kovind was to preside over the annual function at Kargil on Friday, to commemorate heroes of Kargil war, on the 20th anniversary of Operation Vijay, but instead Army Chief attended the function, while President stayed back in Srinagar, where he held a review meeting with State and Security officials.
Ram Nath Kovind arrived at Srinagar Airbase from New Delhi at 7.45 on Friday morning and was straight way flown to Raj Bhavan in an IAF chopper. He was received by the Governor Satya Pal Malik, top State/Security Officials. From Raj Bhawan, President was flown to 16 Corps Headquarter at Badami Bagh Cantonment, where he was offered guard of honor.
President held a meeting here, with Governor Satya Pal, top Army, Intelligence and State Home department officials to review the security situation in the State. He flew back to New Delhi late in the afternoon. (CNS)
